Stalley f/ Wale – ”Home To You” | Music Video

Stalley signing with Maymach Music Group wasn’t necessarily a development which his fans enjoyed. Last year’s Lincoln Way Nights was a million miles away from the snare rolls and powder power that is the MMG sound. Instead, his critically-acclaimed tape depicted the ups and downs of life in small-town Ohio, telling a regional rap story just as compelling as those conjured up by artists from the major centres of US hip hop. The result was a nostalgic look back at southern trunk music, a style Stalley described as ‘Intelligent Trunk Music’, and it made for fine listening.

“Home To You,” which comes from latest project Savage Journey To The American Dream, tries to recapture that sound.

The only difference is that here a disorientated Stalley finds himself blinded by the lights of New York, longing for home. It’s testimony to his skill that he sounds just as smooth when he’s lost. Fellow MMG representative Wale, who steps in for a few verses, doesn’t sound quite so comfortable over this luxurious beat. Nonetheless, this is still a pretty strong showing from the man who once played basketball with Lebron James, if not a three pointer then definitely a well-crafted lay-up.
