Trinidad James – “All Gold Everything” | Music Video

I’m a little late on this Trinidad James dude but on a first watch of the video for “All Gold Everything,” from his Don’t Be S.A.F.E. mixtape, I can safely say that he’s like an exaggerated product of 2Chainz and A$AP Rocky, combining the intonations of the former with the Tumblr trillwave leanings of the latter.

The clip, directed by Motion Family, is definitely one for the South. They depict the Atlanta-born artist doing a flamboyant circuit of Clayton County, Georgia, covered in gold finery to the point of ridiculousness. At one point he’s impressively seen alongside a gold trolley, whilst the rest of the time his almost ’80s style charisma shines through the hackneyed shots of dice games and dark clubs.

There are proud nods to both his Islander origins and Southern religiosity  but what really gets me are the shots of James with a pitbull puppy tucked under his arm. Predictably, the poor thing looks a little bit overwhelmed by it all.
