Speak of the devil; yesterday I pondered where Algebra has disappeared to as Novel sampled her debut single, “U Do It 4 Me” (2006), on his new Legato Blues Summer mixtape.

Today Ms Blessett popped back onto my radar with her cover version of “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood,” which the Atlanta based singer/songwriter unleashed for free download over the weekend.

“I tend to not do covers because I don’t think I can do somebody else’s song justice,” she confesses as a prelude to her acoustic rendition of the much-sampled classic; originally written for and recorded by Nina Simone on her 1964 album, Broadway-Blues-Ballads, also popularised by The Animals.

What do you think – does she do a good job?
