In preparation for their full-length collaborative release , Apollo Brown and Guilty Simpson share “Truth Be Told.”
Baring his soul for all to see, Guilty Simpson, who hails from the same Detroit streets as the late J Dilla, sounds at home over the menacing yet soulfully induced Apollo Brown instrumental.
Dropping lines like, “I used to hustle, bagging up weed but wasn’t smart enough to separate my wants from needs/ I was smoking with the crew for fun, all the while losing funds,” Simpson rides out on a nostalgic tip admitting past mistakes and adolescent ignorance.
Taken from the duo’s upcoming Dice Game project, “Truth Be Told” sets the tone for what will surely be an album full of what the heads like to call ‘real hip-hop’.
