While having some fun on the radio with Radio 1′s Zane Lowe earlier today, A$AP Rocky was somehow convinced to take a stab at covering Foster The People‘s hit single “Pumped Up Kicks.”
Hardcore rappers don’t typically cover pop records, but Rocky was a good sport and gave it the old college try. While I can’t honestly that I’d ever heard of this song (or of Foster the People, for that matter), I did listen to a bit of the original and can honestly say that young Rakim does the song absolutely no justice. Like, none whatsoever. He didn’t even know the words.
But this was done all in fun, so we really can’t be critical. It’s not like he’s considering a genre change or anything. Gotta give him props for being cool enough to even do this.
