Ellie Goulding and Xaphoon Jones cover The Weeknd’s “High For This” | New Music

British popstar Ellie Goulding has hooked up with Chiddy Bang producer Xaphoon Jones for this reinterpretation of what, to me, is one of The Weeknd‘s standout cuts. It’s the opening track on the Torontonian artist’s debut release House of Balloons and perfectly sets the tone for what’s to come – all darkness and decadence.

I’m not entirely convinced about this to be honest – Goulding’s light and airy vocals don’t match the heat and intensity of the original, and the new production doesn’t quite stand up to Illangelo‘s work on the original. Nonetheless, this is a valiant effort that will hopefully bring one of the best tracks of last year to the attention of a whole new set of fans.
