YJ – ‘The Message EP’ | Promo Video + Free Download

Following the release of UK rap artist YJ‘s video “Kano & Ghetts“ last month, his latest EP The Message is now available for free download. Complete with nine explosive tracks – all of which see YJ play with various tempos and concepts — the EP is nothing short of impressive as the budding artist delivers powerful messages over a mixture of melodic/rugged hip-hop instrumentals.

Featuring the UK’s finest poet Suli Breaks, who breaks us into the tape with an emotive spoken word piece, the tape is a consistent insight into YJ’s thought processes. Whilst the door for UK substance rappers is excitingly shifting from ajar to wide open, the 24-year-old digs deeper into his music industry experiences. This is pretty much a far cry from your average UK hip-hop EP;  in no way, shape or form do you hear YJ glorifying superficiality or rapping about predictable “hood” topics.

“Sophie’s Song,” “Be Someone” featuring upcoming artists Raheem Bakare and MDot-E, and “My Area” all embody themes from motivation to aspiration and love. The EP definitely is a winner from start to finish.
