James Brown x 2Pac – “Unchained (The Payback/Untouchable)” | New Music

Michell C. Clark December 11, 2012 Hip Hop, Music, New Music, Soul/R&B/Alt Comments

In an age where holograms can headline concerts and posthumous albums are the norm, the two names featured in this post shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. Crafted by 2Pac‘s engineer Claudio Cueni, “Unchained” combines the instrumentation and ad-libs from James Brown‘s “Untouchable” with Pac’s “Untouchable” to create a theatrical listen that surpasses expectations.

Part of the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming film, Django Unchained, 2Pac’s powerful voice is amplified by Brown’s funk-filled instrumentation on the track. While the original “Untouchable,” which also featured Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, was unmistakably urban, this mash-up has wider appeal due to the authentic seventies feel that Brown’s music adds to it.

Also featuring performances from the likes of Rick Ross, John Legend, and Anthony Hamilton, the full Django Unchained soundtrack will drop on December 18th – and the movie will be in theaters on Christmas day.
