In similar vein to DOOM, the enigmatic L.A. rapper known as Blu has a tendency to link up with other producers and/or emcees for full-length projects and concepts, and sometimes new identities. When he bands with fellow Southern Californian native Mainframe, Blu takes on the title Johnson&Jonson (a clever moniker derived from both artists’ birth names, and a humorous reference to the pharmaceutical manufacturer).
The duo have two projects under their belt thus far, with their self-titled debut in 2008, and Powders & Oils a year later, but today we hear some new new from the two Johnsons. Okay, “Oh, Ox” isn’t technically new; the track was recorded back in ’08, but is being revived for a new J&J project in the works, which will compile other old recordings, various unreleased tracks and some new exclusives, too.
Details on the new body of work will be announced shortly. ‘Til then, take a listen to “Oh, Ox” below.
