Lana Del Rey‘s “Born To Die” is a sucker for the remix. It’s already mingled with Indie Rock outfit The Ting Tings, meshed with Gorillaz and Blur frontman Damon Albarn and even meddled with some UK-tinged R&B vibes via Donae’o and Eddie Kadi, but now the Indie Pop princess’ hit gets a unique Old School-style hip-hop makeover courtesy of Kyle Rapps and Diwon.
Only the primary melody survives this new remix, as Diwon transforms the original landscape into festering, boom bap-driven soundbed, filling the original spacious ambience with every drum loop he can find. “Rap was criminal music before it got pretentious” proclaims Kyle on the mic, as the pair deliver the most least pretentious remix of a very pretentious song (sorry, Lana).
