Chicago’s best-kept secret, Mikkey Halsted is back with his second great mixtape in two months. After the success of Castro, on which Mikkey linked up with NO I.D. and Young Chop to great effect, new tape MMM Season sees beatmaker The Legendary Traxster take control of all production duties.
I’m excited to get into this new tape, which Mikkey effectively sees as a free album. You might remember Traxster from Twista‘s “Adrenaline Rush” – the veteran producer played a major part in the fellow Chi-town representative’s last studio album, The Perfect Storm – and Twista himself makes an appearance MMM Season‘s “Get Low,” whilst local sensations King L and Lil Durk both appear on the intense “Chopper Music.”
Other featured guests on the 12-track project include soulful singer BJ The Chicago Kid on “The Butterfly Effect,” plus appearances from Elijah Blake, Sly Polaroid, Siren The Goddness and Tia London.
With a frighteningly high murder-rate and the recent Teachers’ Strike, Chicago’s going through a turbulent period at the moment, but the city has a number of artists who show the potential to act as positive role models, and Mikkey is one of them. Download and take a listen to his latest work below.
