Mr. MFN eXquire is back with a track entitled “Telephuck,” the first single from forthcoming EP Power & Passion, and it’s everything we’ve come to expect from New York’s grimiest rhymer.
Here, the Universal-signed, Crown Heights representative links up with fellow New Yorker El-P, to play evil pimp over the latter’s dark, string-laden beat, rapping about a woman who does whatever, or whoever, he tells her to do. It’s a partnership made in heaven (or hell) and if the appearance of Trap God Gucci Mane with his dirty Southern growl is more of a surprise, it’s actually one that sits remarkably well alongside the track’s overall vibe. That vibe – despite being unromantic (“No box of chocolate, no rose petals”) and sexist and a million miles away from the sanitized New York we often see on TV and film – is as toxic as it is tasty. It’s another reason to buy Power & Passion when it comes out.
