Chicago may be experiencing a surge in trap rap popularity right now (see: Chief Keef, King L, Young Chop), but the city’s contributions to the left wing of the hip-hop spectrum is where the credit really lies. Fresh off a career-marking appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien on Wednesday night, Nico Segal and Greg Landfair Jr. of the Kids These Days band nourish our musical diets with a fresh audio bite.

Blending the soulful eclecticism of A Tribe Called Quest, the rich and colourful melody of a John Legend and the humble approach of a Mos Def, you couldn’t pick a better jam than “Apple Pie” to sum up the sweet sounds of Nico and Greg and their guests GLC, The O’My’s and producers Blended Babies; all natives of the Windy City.

This one’s a real gem.
