On “Focus,” legend of the LA underground Ras Kass links up with South African hip hop singer Pro-Verb and the King of the New School Kendrick Lamar for a feel-good, West Coast anthem.
The short track harnesses Kendrick’s driving-round-Compton sound but places him in the sunnier parts of the city with the help of Pro-Verb’s summertime hook. Kendrick’s collaborations with Game, Dr Dre and MC Eiht have proved he sounds great alongside L.A rappers who are very different to him, and alongside Ras Kass, part of the mid-’90s underground scene which Black Hippy almost accidentally latched on to, he excels.
Have a listen below, and pick up your copy of Ras Kass’ forthcoming BArmageddon LP when it drops on December 18th. It’s well worth the money- everyone who pre-orders the album will receive a free BArmageddon mixtape containing 23 tracks, including this one.
