With the sequel to their impeccable Black Radio album releasing in exactly a month today, Robert Glasper Experiment‘s new single “I Stand Alone” proves to be a compelling listen with thoughtful verses from Common and an emotive, motivating chorus from Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump.
With the core crew again consisting of Robert Glasper on keyboards, Derrick Hodge on bass, Mark Colenburg on drums and Casey Benjamin on vocoder and saxophone, Black Radio 2 is set to feature yet another exquisite line-up bursting with featured guests including Brandy, Jill Scott, Dwele, Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony Hamilton, Faith Evans, Norah Jones, Snoop Dogg, Lupe Fiasco, Emeli Sandé and Lalah Hathaway.
An additional feature on “I Stand Alone” is author and academic Michael Eric Dyson who occupies the track’s outro to discuss “the irresistible appeal of black individuality” and the value of persisting with original art in an age of recycling and repetition. Listen below.
Black Radio 2 is out on October 29th via Blue Note Records – pre-order from iTunes.
