It’s crazy to think that it’s already been two years since Talib Kweli’s last album Gutter Rainbows. Since then his next release Prisoner of Conscious has been oft-delayed but will finally see release on April 23rd.
To hold us over till then, the wordsmith has released two new tracks. “Art Imitates Life” features Black Thought, one of the few other rappers of his calibre as well as the criminally underrated Rah Digga discussing a very real topic that is often overlooked in society today, complete with a nice A Scanner Darkly reference.
The B-side, ”One Two” features Jae Millz and Oh No and sees the trio flowing over a smooth beat reminiscent of a live performance with it’s strong horns, sweet strings and gritty drum beat. As you’d rightfully expect from Kweli, both tracks are great, and continue to prove that the MC has never lost form.
