Hometown: Cambridge, UK (Etta Bond) London, UK (Raf Riley)
Record Label: Odd Child Recordings
ExR are the poster children for “Fuck what you think we should be making, we are going to make what we like, how we like, say what we like and you going to fucking love it!”
The Odd Child Recordings (UK superproducer and chart topping artist Labrinth‘s inprint) repping singer-songwriter Etta Bond and genre-decimating producer Raf Riley had already impressed us as solo artists, with Etta’s features on records by Labrinth, Wretch 32 and more and Raf Riley’s beats finding placements on projects by Diplo‘s Mad Decent imprint. But when the two talents joined forces as ExR released their first collaboration project the Emergency Room EP, their stock catapulted.
The duo’s addictive cocktail of hard-hitting soundscapes are influenced by a rainbow of genres including Drum’n'Bass, Hip Hop, Trap, Grime, EDM and RnB, and come combined with raunchy, potty mouthed, outrageous but real lyrics and soulful yet raw vocals. Since their debut single “Boring Bitches” featuring Lady Leshurr, everyone from the blogs to the broadsheets and celebrities – including the likes of Plan B, Kano, Azealia Banks (who invited the duo to open for her at her recent Mermaid Ball) and more – has been wanting a piece of ExR.
With another EP set for release in the next couple of months, plus a tour and a possible full length LP on the way, it won’t be long ’til world domination will be be within their grasps.
