Tink: Get Familiar

Verse March 6, 2013 Get Familiar, Hip Hop, Music Comments

Ladies and gentlemen (and everybody else that doesn’t quite fit into those categories), meet 17 year old Trinity Home aka Tink and keep both eyes and ears locked on this young lady, because she is set to become the next big export from the same city that gave us Kanye West, Common, Lupe Fiasco and many more.

Coming from a different lane entirely to the recent Chief Keef, Lil Reese, GBE representations of the Windy City hip hop scene, The Calumet City, Chicago raised fast rising rapper and singer, who cites the likes of TLC, Alicia Keys and fellow Chi-town representative Da Brat amongst her influences, already has three mixtapes under snapback displaying the impressive ability to craft and execute emotive R&B songs and then effortlessly switch it up with scene-stealing, triptronic flow powered rap verses covering a variety of subjects.

A perfect example of her ability to balance both skills with outstanding results can be witnessed on her standout track “Background Music”, a sensual narrative where she flips between singing and rapping without missing a beat over bedroom ready soundbed.

I’ve already heard her being described as the ‘Female Drake’, which I can understand as Drizzy has carved out a successful and influential career utilizing both hip hop and R&B, but I think Tink has the potential to become a stronger force than that. With her undeniable charisma and a maturity way beyond her years, she manages to bounce from tracks about relationships and emotions, to spitting hard & hungry ready verses without ever coming across as contrived or unbelievable as evidenced on her “No Competition” freestyle.

I urge you to go and download Tink’s Winter’s Diary (her mainly R&B debut mixtape), Alter Ego (the rap orientated follow up) and absorb her latest release Ballads & Blunts below, then go thank Tink… tell her SoulCulture sent you.
