Retired NBA star Patrick Ewing is known not only for his long and dedicated career with the New York Knicks but, much like Michael Jordan, also for his very own athletic shoe. Unlike other basketball players who merely had their own model under a major shoe company, Ewing took things one step further by setting up Ewing Athletics, his very own shoe company — which is now relaunching itself to bring you classic designs from the 90s.
The first design being brought forward is a strong one in the form of the “Ewing 33 Hi Retro,” which will be available in red, black, blue and white. Coming in suede and leather, each shoe has Ewing’s name scrolled across the side in small font, with the larger and bolder “EWING” printed across the back and his jersey number, “33,” located on a velcro strap across the shoe’s ankle.
The retro design and bold colourways are a great way to bring Ewing Athletics back into a market where Nike’s Jordan Brand and retro Air Jordan reissues seem to be the most popular/only option available for sneaker-freaks looking for a stylish basketball shoe. It’s about time Jordans had some healthy competition.
Ewing Athletics has recognised the high international demand for retro shoes, so the brand hopes to use its website to reach the consumer directly and find out exactly what they want. Although there is no exact date on when you can get your hands on these, they’re expected to be released some time next month.
