The name might say ‘Boy,’ but girls are definitely owning this look right now. Let me introduce you to Boy London…
Starting off as a fashion brand in 1977, the Boy London name grew immensely popular, becoming a cult brand in the ’80s as the punk rock era took a hold of popular culture. The likes of Madonna and artist Andy Warhol were among fans of the brand, using the edgy, street designs as a way of standing out and giving off a rebellious look.
Soaring through the ’80s, with the popularity of the brand only growing more internationally in the ’90s, Boy London was forced to close its doors due to being overwhelmed with orders. However, in 2007 they started to sell again in a store named Sick, situated in Shoreditch, East London.
Recently Boy London has been seen on some of the hottest celebrity females, ranging from London talent like Jessie J and Rita Ora, all the way to Bajan beauty and fashion trend setter, Rihanna.
Rihanna most notably wore it during an interview on The Jonathan Ross Show, kitted out head-to-toe in the Boy London print, as well as wearing the designs in her “You Da One” video.
Meanwhile Jessie J has been seen in the brand on the red carpet and in her “Domino” video, while Rita Ora wore it most recently, donning a t-shirt in her “How We Do (Party)” video.
The range sticks to simple black and white, with different prints, slogans and designs on vests, t-shirts, jumpers, shorts and leggings. You don’t have to be as daring with fashion as Rihanna to wear Boy London, nor do you need her bank balance as items range from £30 to £55.
