Earning her fashion credentials left, right and centre, songstress Rita Ora poses for the September issue of online retailer ASOS‘s magazine for a full spread of the starlet’s signature style of blinged-out girly street fashion. The photos, shot by Tyrone Lebon, see her wearing studded jackets, cut-off shorts and workman boots, all topped off with lashings of jewelry.
The team at ASOS also sat down with the rising star for a candid interview where Ora discussed her unlikely style icon and put to bed those oh-so-obvious Rihanna comparisons.
The Roc Nation signee starts by talking about her humble fashion beginnings where, rather than getting clothes sent to her by the truckload, she had to borrow from her sister.
“I always used to wear her clothes. She hated me borrowing them and would get so mad,” she said. “The worst was when she had a white pair of jeans and I ruined them. I wasn’t allowed to wear her clothes at all after that.”
Talking more about her style and love of fashion, Ora reveals a less-than-obvious choice of fashion icon.
“I’d love to be the female Kanye. He’s one of my fashion icons. He doesn’t believe me! But I think he’s so cool and effortless. To me, fashion is like art. I love how clothes can change the way you feel. ”
Although she hasn’t been on the scene for long, the singer can’t seem to get away from comparisons to labelmate Rihanna — something she’s hoping will be left behind once her debut album, ORA, is released.
“It’s a great comparison but I don’t think about it. When the album’s out, it’s going to separate me from that, without me having to say anything.”
