Curren$y – My Favourite Verse (“Breakfast”) | SoulCulture TV

Verse July 23, 2012 Hip Hop, Music, My Favourite Verse Comments

After catching up with his How Fly brother-in-rhyme and weed Wiz Khalifa for our last episode, we caught up with New Orleans hailing rap star and Jet Life president Curren$y for the latest installment of our My Favourite Verse series.

With over 25 mixtapes, EPs and mixtapes to draw a verse from, the emcee cites “Breakfast” as a personal highlight – produced by the artist formerly known as Mos Def and released as a free track, before ending up on his 2010 album Pilot Talk with additional production from Ski Beatz.

“I like that because Mos Def did the beat for me in like two minutes” said the emcee who recently released his latest album The Stoned Immaculate, “I think I put that record out that night at like 2 in the morning, it was just free, it wasn’t supposed to be for my album or nothing.

“But it ended up being like one of the songs that people always asked for – then I had to put it on the album, then we got the live band to play it over. That’s the one where I said ‘New Orleans this morning, New York this evening’ because that was what was going on in my life”.

Watch Curren$y discuss the verse and recite it acapella below…
