For the latest episode of SoulCulture TV‘s collaborative series The Co-Sign, we paired emerging UK talent Josh Kumra with Mr Hudson for a special live performance of “Helicopters & Planes” – the lead single from Kumra’s upcoming debut album, Good Things Come To Those Who Don’t Wait.
Affiliated with Kanye West‘s GOOD Music label with a string of collaborations under his belt [most recently for Kanye and Jay-Z's Watch The Throne album and Sway's latest single "Charge"] alongside two solo albums, Mr Hudson’s current musical focus is as one half of pop duo BIGkids with Rosie Bones; their album Never Grow Up having been released independently this Summer.
Meanwhile, currently finishing off his debut album, Swindon hailing singer-songwriter Josh Kumra first emerged last year on the chorus of BET Award winning North London rapper Wretch 32‘s UK chart-topping single, “Don’t Go” from his well-received second album Black and White.
“I think there’s a straight-forward honesty to Josh’s delivery and he’s got a great voice,” singer, songwriter and producer Hudson comments before heading to the piano to work his magic. “A lot of people try [to be] all singing, all dancing – everyone thinks they need to be Chris Brown or Michael Jackson – and Josh is like, ‘Just let me sit here and sing my songs; if you like them keep listening if you don’t, see you around.’”
Josh reciprocates, “I’ve been a big fan of Hudson for a long time. He’s got this spontaneous about him – running about the studio playing loads of different instruments – once he’s off there’s no stopping him, he just loves it, and I love seeing that in somebody.”
Watch their exclusive performance for SoulCulture below.
With his debut album marked for release in February, Josh Kumra’s first single “Helicopters & Planes” is out now through Sony Music, whilst Londoners can catch him performing at Union Chapel on December 14th.
